Hey, there beautiful people out there! I am going to talk about why I prefer driving than flying! As you all know, or should know, My family and I took a mini road trip to the Midwest. We made stops in Pittsburgh, Cleveland, Detroit, Chicago, Indianapolis and drove through Columbus. It was fascinating and such a fun, short trip. A few people asked how did I plan out our trip and pick which places to go so I will do a separate blog post on that. Although it was a tiring journey, I would prefer driving than flying. I know you probably think I am crazy for saying that, and I’ll be glad to explain why!
Reason #1: I love sightseeing! It’s something about riding on an open road and enjoying the scenery that gets me excited on a trip. Don’t get me wrong, I love looking at the God’s creation on an airplane, but I don’t know where we are or what state we are crossing over in the sky so it kind of defeats the purpose. Cruising on a highway seeing the signs and knowing where you are makes the trip more exciting for me!
Reason #2 It’s so much cheaper! Traveling alone is an expense in itself, so I try to save as much as I can while traveling. If you have the patience to endure a long road trip, a reliable car, and gas money, I’m telling you, you will save a ton of money to get where you are trying to go. I’ve gotten so used to long distance driving, the time it takes to get there doesn’t phase me as much as it used to. I used to drive from Maryland to North Carolina a lot (6-hour drive) and over time, I got used to it. From that, it helped me to learn the highways, learn what speed to go to get there at a decent time and how to be comfortable in the car for that extended period of time.
Let’s do some math real quick, shall we? Let’s say I wanted to take a flight from Baltimore-Washington International to JFK in New York City. A round trip ticket would probably be around $300 depending on which airline I choose. Now, you will get there in an hour and 15 minutes, which is love. On the flip side, If you have a reliable car, 3 1/2 hours travel time to and from, $50 in toll money, you actually save money in the long run. Depending on where you are going, it may be cheaper and quicker to fly, but if it saves you $500, I say take that drive! I love flying because of the mileage points we accumulating to travel for little to nothing but driving will do. I know some people don’t have the patience to deal with traffic, bridges and construction on the road, which is entirely understandable, but it’s just something about the open road that makes traveling fun and exciting. I don’t mind trains either. I actually enjoyed riding the Amtrak train. It was on the ground, and I didn’t have to drive! 🙂
Reason #3 You don’t have to worry about your stuff getting lost or stolen. There have been instances where people have lost their luggage, someone took something from them, TSA or workers broke something and etc. No one wants to be on a trip knowing someone stole something or something is missing. In a car, everything is with you or in your trunk, you can reach for it at your convenience, and it’s there with you. I was told taking a dark-colored suitcase when traveling by plane because your bag can get dirty on the conveyer belt. Well, I was given a pink suitcase for Christmas, and it is a little dirty from the belt. I say that to say, in a car, your suitcase is less likely to get dirty LOL!!
To me, it doesn’t matter how we get there as long as we get there safely, and it is affordable. Like I said, traveling can be a little bit expensive if you don’t budget right, but the experience you get from going to your location is all that matters in the end. But if I had to choose my means of transportation, it definitely is by car (depending on how far I’m going) and then planes. Which one do you prefer?!
