This post is in partnership with OEKO-TEX®. All opinions are my own!
As a parent, you only want the best with everything for your little humans. When I became a mom 7 years ago, I did a lot of research on everything pertaining to motherhood. When I say everything, I mean everything from the best and safest car seats to use, to harmful toys not to use, toxin-free products for baby’s skin and so much more. I have mentioned this to my beautiful community online, but I am very particular about the products that I use or have around the house or outside of the home, especially when it comes to my kids. Although we can’t avoid bad occurrences from happening at times, I make it my mission to do my part as a mother to keep my environment and surroundings safe for my kids, to make sure that they have the best and healthiest foods, drinks and the list goes on!
As a parent, we often don’t think about the clothes that our children wear. What I mean is yes, while we are out shopping, we find super cute clothes that we know our children will look so adorable in. But we don’t think about the materials that their clothes are made with and how it could potentially be harmful to their health. Whenever I buy clothes for them (or even for myself), I always wash the items before they wear them. I know some people try clothes on or accidentally drop them on the floor. And since my kids have sensitive skin, I can’t take any chances on something harming their delicate skin.
In celebration of World Children’s Day, I am excited that I have the chance to partner with OEKO-TEX® to tell you all about the STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX®. OEKO-TEX®’s mission is to educate and encourage consumers to make responsible decisions to help protect and better our planet for the next generation and beyond! With the STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX® label, fabric and materials are tested AND certified to indicate that it is safe from harmful substances or chemicals that could potentially be harmful to one’s well-being. For example, say I wanted to create children’s clothing to sell. Before I would sell it, it would go through extensive testing through OEKO-TEX® to ensure that the fabric and materials that are being used to create my clothing items are tested for any toxic chemical substances and are safe to wear for my consumers. I would have to renew the testing and certification every year to ensure I’m still compliant. With specific labeling and/or tag from OEKO-TEX®, it indicates that the clothing items have passed the test and are safe for one to wear!
As you all know, I am huge on family matching! I love matching with my little family, I love finding matching items for my kids and so much more. When I saw this cute Spiderman outfit from Hanna Andersson, I knew my kids would love it. They are into Marvel movies just like their daddy and I love the fact that my daughter didn’t mind matching with her brother. She loves him so much that she wanted to match with her brother in spite of Spiderman being a male superhero…but one that she also admires. Additionally, the awesome thing about this outfit is that it is labeled with the STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX® so that means that every part of this product, from fabric to zippers is tested extensively, and their adorable outfits are safe for our kids to wear forever.
I’m sure you are wondering who thinks about things like this, but you would be surprised at the things we don’t pay attention to could potentially be harmful in ways that we don’t think about. As I mentioned, my kids have sensitive skin. So, what if I bought something that was cute but was made with harmful substances that could potentially cause harm to their bodies. It is imperative that we as parents really look into the things we have and buy on a daily basis. With this initiative, I am so thankful for it because as humans, we wear clothing items every single day. We know where our items are made because it’s labeled on the tag, but we don’t know the depths of the process of which these things are being made. So, I take pride in being a cautious parent because I know that being made fully aware of things like this that not only go inside our bodies but on the outside as well, will benefit all of us in the long run.
So today on World Children’s Day, let’s celebrate our children! They are truly gifts from above and it takes a special superpower to raise children. As parents, we need to give ourselves credit more often because it is not an easy task. But to ensure that our children are raised well, healthy, and safe from harm’s way, we are doing our job and that deserves a pat on the back. The next time you’re out shopping for your children or receive clothes from others, make sure to keep the STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX® label in mind! Now that we know better, we should make it a mission to do better when it comes to the safety of our children’s clothes and etc. And as long as you see that label on there, you can have peace of mind knowing your children are safe to wear items that are not only adorable for them to wear but also safe to wear!
