Hey there, beautiful people. Let’s talk about the importance of self-care and taking care of your well-being. Life gets in the way sometimes. One minute, everything is going well, your business is thriving, your child is cooperating, you’re achieving your fitness goals. I mean everything is going well for you. But then, life hits us in a negative way and we allow ourselves to slowly fall apart because we weren’t expecting the unexpected.
Regardless of what life may throw our way at times, as long as we still have breath in our bodies, we have to keep pushing through and not let ourselves fall apart. In the end of the day, our bodies are temples and have to take care of our temples internally and externally. I am going to share 3 reasons why self-care is very important and ways to that you can incorporate self-care into your life despite what may be going on.
1. You have to take care of you because no one else will. You can search long and hard for something or someone to help you with what is going on in your life. But you’re not going to find much of an answer because I’m sure other people have their own set of issues going on. Also, no one can go inside of your mind and change your thoughts and perspective on your situation. Only you can and that’s where you have to realize that only you can make changes to turn your situation into a positive one. A man can’t do it. Drinking a bottle of wine can’t do it. Going to 50,000 church services can’t do it. Sometimes, we have to face our realities and strive to find positive solutions until we are satisfied with the results.
2. Positivity Wins. As stated, life happens and unexpected things will occur. But the good thing about that is troubles don’t last always. No matter what you are going through you can be certain that it is not going to last forever. Troubles are temporary and sometimes come to teach us lessons that we need to learn. But in the midst of that, if you remain positive and realize that it is only temporary, your positive mindset will help you overlook the fact that you’re even enduring hardships. And before you know it, you will be free of that circumstance. Positivity wins always and as hard as it is to stay positive when you’re surrounded by negativity all the time, positivity beats negativity always!
3. Confidence and Image are everything! Just because you have or are going through something, doesn’t mean you have to look like it. I love the saying, “Thank goodness I don’t look like what I’ve been through.” We all have a story and endure hardships but we don’t have to look like it by letting ourselves go. There was a time I was just going through it. Life hit me like a ton of bricks. I would go outside with my bonnet and sweatpants on. At that time, I just didn’t care anymore. I didn’t feel good about myself because of what I had been through. So from the outside looking in, one could assume I was going through something. But I couldn’t allow myself to drown my sorrows because I knew I would overcome it and things would get better.
So I vowed that I wouldn’t wear my bonnet out again (I wear hats or a CUTE turban if my hair isn’t done). I won’t allow myself to look like what I have or am currently going through. I don’t like faking how I feel at times. But, I put my troubles behind so I could enjoy the moment with my friends and family. When people look at you, the first impression is everything. Not saying don’t tell them what is going on, but you don’t want to come off as being or looking like a negative nancy. So fix yourself up, go out and don’t miss out on a good time because of how you feel!
No matter what happens in life, you have to take care of you! When I say you, I mean your mental, physical, emotional, even your verbal being. Remember, life and death are in the power of your tongue. Our words are powerful. Heck, our thoughts are powerful. Even our bodies are powerful. So take care of your temple.
Ways to do that is going to the gym or working out daily/when you can. Going to the gym has helped me with my body image and confidence. I’m not thick. I don’t have DD boobs. But I love how I look and feel after a good workout. I take zumba and yoga classes to help as well.
Go get your nails done, hair done, eyebrows done! Get your feet done, get a massage, a facial, go pamper yourself dang it lol! I dedicate my Saturdays as my #SelfCareSaturday. After a long week of blogging, vlogging, editing, emails, cleaning my home, taking care of my little one, running errands here and there, I need a day just to myself. I told my husband about my #SelfCareSaturday and he totally agreed.
So every Saturday, I’ll have a couple of hours to myself to pamper myself or get a Starbucks and enjoy my moment to myself. You can go to a bookstore, read a book, your bible, write in your journal and not get on social media. In the end of the day, I have to take care of me so taking time to myself is very vital to my self-care routine. I encourage you to take some time to yourself to take care of you. Your body will thank you. And most importantly, your mind will thank you. If those two things are in order and functioning properly, you will be a-okay! Take care of yourself now, ya heard?!
